Last Friday, Gov. Scott signed Senate Bill 1524 into law; the Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 goes into effect July 1. This law has the potential to affect all companies doing business in Florida. It will require businesses not only to take reasonable efforts to protect & secure electronic data containing personal info, but to provide notice to customers and the state within 30 days of a suspected breach.
